The Australian was shot in the back “for the fun of it”.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Christopher Lane was doing nothing wrong when he was out for a run last week.
The Australian baseball player was visiting his girlfriend in Duncan, Oklahoma when he was shot and killed by a group of teenagers he passed while out on a run.
Police Chief Danny Ford said a 17-year-old in the group has given a detailed confession to law enforcement, but a weapon has not been found.
Three teenagers, including the 17-year-old, as well as a 16 and a 15-year-old, are still in custody.
“They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: `There’s our target,”‘ Ford said. “The boy who has talked to us said, `We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.”‘
Lane had been visiting from Melbourne and was attending college on a baseball scholarship. Ford went on to tell a local radio station that the teens shot the runner for the “fun of it.”
