Ran the inaugural Surfers Point Half Marathon on Sunday. This was my 4th Elite Sports race and each one has been better than the previous one. The RD and Organizers seem to be learning what to do right after every race and that’s really great to see. The shirt was also great. For the Ojai 1/2 earlier this year it seemed kind of “ironed on” and this one was a nice print that I will enjoy wearing while out running.
Pre Race:
Packet Pick up was easy, a nice coupon for Sports Authority (where the packet pick-up was) so that was a nice surprise. Pre race was pretty organized but the start line area wasn’t stretched out enough. The pacers for the 1/2 were kind of bunched together so the first mile or so of the race was spent dodging walkers.
Course:
The oceanfront of Ventura has greatly improved over the past few years so the course was absolutely beautiful. A few rolling hills which are great and a nice little uphill at about mile 10. Ending on the beach is always nice.
Post Race:
For some reason I couldn’t find any post-race snacks but it wasn’t a big deal as I had snacks in my car. The Medal for this race was probably the nicest I’ve seen so far from Elite Sports.
Overall the race was successful and I’m looking forward to next years race.
