Review of Surf City 10 Miler/10K by

Surf City always puts on such a great event. This is awesome course to run if you are planning on the half or full in February. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking PCH is totally flat and that the rolling hills of Surf City are small. They are not and I saw a lot of first timers struggling with the hills. It is for sure a good practice run.

Parking was $15.00 and a breeze. They had same day packet pick-up which went very quick.
I really enjoyed the women’s tech shirt this year. Surf City always offers the softest best quality tech shirts around and no weird colors or loud designs.

The start line was well organized with music and pacers. They had a 5k and 10k that started some time later.

They seemed to have plenty of water on the course but I wasn’t paying attention because I always bring my own. I do really wish they had at least one portable restroom out past the 2 and 1/2 mile mark. The only available restroom is near the beach parking lot around mile 6/7. I was so close to being done at that point I just held it.

The finish line had separate finisher chutes for each distance. They did have staff direction traffic with signs. However, some guys traveling 0.1 mile per hour for a shorter distance ended up in 10 mile lane and decided to film the finish line. Obviously the staff could nothing about that.

The finishers chute was great. Plenty of medal and lots of goodies. I always appreciate how well organized the Surf City finishers chute is.

Afterward they had a costume contest and staff was giving away leftover goody bags. They had lots of vendors and music.

I loved the large surf board medal. Everyone was super friendly. I will defiantly be back next year!
