Review of Midnight Madness Bicycle Ride by

Posted by: on August, 22 2013

This is one of our favorite fun bike rides in SoCal! What I like about this ride is that the bike ride starts at midnight when traffic on streets in San Diego is relatively light. (Last year was the only exception when it didn’t start at midnight.) This year the bike ride started in Liberty Station area and then went to shelter island and then to harbor island and then circled back to Liberty Station. It’s about a 17 miles bike ride. The only thing I don’t like about the course is that the part of the course is on the bike path on Harbor Drive. The bike path is very narrow. What makes this bike ride so fun is that the organizers have a costume contest and a light your bike up contest. The winner of the costume contest get a round trip ticket from Alaska Airlines. Therefore there are a lot of riders dressed up in costumes and also a lot of bikes are lit up. When you’re riding on Harbor and Shelter Islands, you get a chance to see a lot of lit bikes on the opposite side. This bicycle ride is relatively small (about 1000). Also it is so neat to see downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bay Bridge lit up at night.
