Review of Hollywood Half Marathon by Amanda Daley

I think the people complaining about this race are going into it unprepared. This is LA people there is ALWAYS a ton of traffic, add 7,000 runners plus their family then you get a madhouse. I thought about that before the fact and got dropped off outside of the hilton. Had my husband circle around and pick me back up. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I walked right up to the table and had my bib and timing chip handed to me. They gave out nice tech shirts that were gender specific and I got some samples of the on course beverage and walked out.
The morning of the race I took a cab from my hotel that was 4 miles away. Lots of street blockage caused us to circle around over and over but we eventually found an additional freeway entrance and made it there with plenty of time to spare. I got dropped off once again to avoid the line of cars. The corrals were clearly marked and I made my way to the specified one. (of course walkers were still in the 9min corral) The course started out with the sun just rising and it was really nice to see the RD out there cheering on the runners as they passed by.
It was an out and back course so as I was hitting sub 8:30’s for the first few I got a little nervous because I realized that was the hill we had to climb back up at the end. For the first 5 miles there was tons of on course support, then after mile 5 or 6 They ran out of cups 🙁 that was mentally defeating. It was warm and I was recovering from a stomach flu. I really needed electrolytes. I hope next year they figure that out.
All in all it was a great event finishing up on a red carpet runway and being shuttled back to the start in a limo. I had a great time and will be back next year!
