Review of Hollywood Half Marathon by

Posted by: on April, 7 2013

Concept is great and very fun to start on Hollywood Blvd. From what I heard, it was a big improvement over last year, which is good. However, you can tell this race is a young one, as there are many elements that more veteran half and full marathon courses have, that were missing. There were not enough port a pottys at the beginning of the event, which is a must. The bag check was at the finish, almost a mile away?? The idea is to have runners bring their stuff to the start, and then the race staff brings it to the finish. My friend had to take her jacket and stuff with her. Poor selection of the shuttle service from the “host hotel” left many runners missing the start time, not good. The course is not “mostly flat” as the website says, but I am sure was an improvement over last year’s 2 mile killer hills. The course has a series of long inclines, long declines, steep hills and rolling hills.
I was expecting a little more “wow” factor on the course, Hollywood looks a little beat up.
We stayed at Loews Hotel, which would have been a great host hotel, as the start was right outside the door.
Course support was good, ample water, gatoraid and a Clif Shot station.
Not alot of spectators during most of the run, but good support at the start and the finish.
Medals were cool.
