A good event and a tough course. It is pretty much all hills. Those downhills you enjoy on the way out will be climbs on the way back (and vice versa!). The toughest climb (the “heartbreak”) comes at about mile 11. Mostly fire roads and soft gravel and dirt. Definitely train on hills for this race. Get there early because it is a bit of a drive from I-5. Also, be sure to have current license and registration or Marines will not let you on the base! It is inspiring to run this with men and women who serve our country! The National Anthem just seemed more meaningful before this race, especially since I ran it on September 11th (2010). I recommend this event.
