It’s hard to review smaller races when you’ve done bigger, more complex races. For what this race is geared for, it’s perfect. The race had tons of positive energy. Lots of family, and fitness of all levels. Baby strollers, everything. What I loved most was the music by every color station.
As for the course, it was very flat, kind of boring. I think this might be fun if you hit up happy hour prior to it? At 7am? Maybe not. I believe there was 5 color stations you ran through. You receive one packet of color for the end of the race but a lot of people used it at the start of the race to get all colored out. But you can purchase more before and after the start. I purchased more just because I loved having pink hair.
I also meant to add, this race is labeled as scenic? The El Toro Marine Base isn’t exactly scenic. The views of the race is flat roads, and old buildings.
Post Race: Lots of great music. Zumba, if you’re into that ridiculousness.
Overall: I felt this was geared more towards family racing. It very easy, and very laid back.

So much freakin’ fun! Even with my daughter who broke her arm 3 days before, it was a great family event. We demolished each other with color. I LOVED the electric blower at the end! Check in at Road Runner was nice – quick and easy. Parking was plentiful. Race seemed to start late, but we were having fun at the start line. They were giving out bracelets and extra color while we were dancing! We walked the race, but that made it more fun. We used the extra color on the ground to get doused! A few colors seemed to be running low, but we were at the back of the pack. Great photos and memories.

Pre-Race: The day of, getting into the race parking area was a bit short of a nightmare. While it was fun to honk at fellow racers and we made the best, expect to be in a car que for an hour plus. They really should have had two directions going to park cars. People were salty as well cutting off etc. Not the CR’s fault though.
Course: They course was great. and easy jog for the first timers in our group! The color zones were well marked – a word of advice, try running towards the center of the zones, then you get more of that fun splotchy color. If you run on the sides (high color) for all the zones its more loose color… I recommend 2 loose one splotchy for the best effect. Packet pickup day of was a breeze! Bought some merch, another breeze, and lined up. Waiting in line is the WORST, however the announcers were spot on on playing fun music, shooting out swag and keeping the vibe happy.
Post-race was great, the color plume was really a once in a life time experience. There were a few venders around so we had slur-pees, fuze waters, etc.
Overall this is the most fun race you will ever do. No expectations or egos, no one is trying to pace you or race you, everyone is just there to have a great time. One of the best parts was how everyone was there for fun. Purple at this particular race was hard to come by, but those with purple packets were willing to toss some out way to complete our rainbow spectrums. So awesome, sign up, seriously. Oh, and get a team together, you save a few bucks, and, well, its more fun in a group 🙂

The entrance to the parking lot was long. So be prepared for that.
Packet pick up was a breeze. Even though there were a lot of people, I didn’t have to wait very long. The tshirt was pretty cool. Loved it! The course is super fun! It’s fun to wear that white shirt and see it get so splattered with so many colors. The post race was awesome. Great DJ music and lots of food. Felt like a party atmosphere. Overall a very fun race. I will definitely do it again with even more friends!!

the most fun you’ll have while get a good workout!
who knew that exercising could be so fun and artistic! using your whole body as a canvas you run the 5K and finish a colorful masterpiece! each kilometer has a different color station (yellow, green, blue, pink) where you get blasted with colored powder that sticks to everything! your hair, skin, clothes, and shoes will be a mish-mash of color! when you finally cross the finishline, you’re a beautiful mess!
it was simply hilarious! if you like to get dirty, sweaty and have fun doing it, then this is definitely the event for you!
registration: online registration was quick and easy. updates for the event were sent via email.
packet pick-up: i went on Thursday after work (about 5:30 pm) and it wasn’t too crowded yet. parking at the running store was difficult, but once you got a stall and into the store, it was very organized.
race day: the organizers were wonderful. there was lots of free parking and bathrooms were clean. the course was flat and not exactly 5K (my iPhone tracked it at 2.75 miles total). Activate and Fuse were passing out free drinks. there was some kind of slushee drink too. of course there was a lot of water and granola bars available.
all the volunteers were very friendly, helpful and happy to be there.
after the race, there’s a Color Throw, where runners get together and throw their color packets (everybody gets a baggie with their packet/bib). it makes a giant cloud of color! there’s a Color Throw every 15 minutes so you don’t have to worry about missing it.
two start times were available for this day: 9:00 and 12:00. my race started at noon. it wasn’t too hot out, but the water stations were well stocked and very nicely organized.
when you’re ready to leave, you can get cleaned up at the cleaning station where they blast you with an air blower and most of the color gets blown away. the parts of you that got wet/sweaty sticks, so you’ll have to wash off in the bathroom. but it’s kinda fun to walk around the rest of the day with extra color and see the funny looks you get. (99% of the color will wash out when you take a shower. i still have a bit of green stuck to me after one washing)
i left feeling like i got a good work out (i ran the whole way except to stop to take pictures) and had a wonderful time. when was the last time you smiled the whole time you were exercising?
