I really wanted to like this race. The registration volunteers I spoke with were helpful and very nice. However, being that it is a kids race, it would have been nice to have more than one size kids shirt available. I pre-registered and I was asked for shirt sizes, so I was disappointed to see that only Y mediums were available. As for the adult shirts, I am glad I got a L like I had asked for because the only other size they had was XXL!! The race did not start on time, perhaps they ought to do waves instead to allow the runners to go first. The course, a boring trek down Figueroa, it would have been better if we could have gone in the opposite direction. The post-race activities were nice, except the fact that it was posted all over the carnival that rides were $1 and some were $2-$3. Definitely lacked organization….

Yes, this is for a great cause, but overall very disappointing. Start on time. You shouldn’t make people wait who were there on time. What is with the loop? To be blunt…it sucked. You had people walking and stopping in the middle of the course as the 10kers were trying to run by. Sorry, but some people actually like to run the race. What’s up with the XL shirts. Why did you even ask for my size when I registered? And finally, how can you have an event of this size thats not properly timed?. That is half the fun, being able to go online and see your time and splits. Will I every do this race again…No. I’ll just send in my check for the kids and pick another race that weekend.

How can you not give a race that raises money for kids cancer research an A? I got there early, as has been my way of dealing with parking, and I’m glad I did. The start of the race was delayed because of parking problems and people trying to register as they got there. Bugs and Daffy lead us in a car for the 5k, and the kids loved taking pictures with them 🙂 When they said go – people took off fast and trampled some of the kids in front, poor things!
The race was a loop, with the 10K doing the loop twice. Not a big fan of double loops, but it is downtown, on the day of the laker playoffs, so what else can they do?
The expo after looked like fun – carnival games, cards for kids in hospital and some food/drink. I would liked to have seen some more running type booths, too, though.
I wish it could have started a little earlier, because it was really hot out there, with not much shade on the course.
Pre race was nothing – just watching people set up the carnival and listening to radio Disney. I think some of the store could have made money if they opened early.
My only real gripe is that they only gave out XL shirts, which I know makes it easier, but we aren’t all XL people.
Overall, fun and for a good cause, and I will probably run again.

I’m excited about the addition of the 10K. Many of these event for charities don’t offer longer more challenging distances. I do this race every year and bring the whole family. Kids love it…they can race and then there is a carnival afterwards. We usually see some type of celebrity or sports star that makes the kids day too. And it’s right at Staples Center so cool location!
