For the Pacific Half Marathon.
Good – starting point at the ranch (old western movie set – really cool), lots of free parking. Water stops every two miles (that’s about right), medal was big and heavy, lots of fruit at the finish.
Not so good – packet pickup closes way too early. If your pickup is only on weekdays, one day it should be open until 9pm. Post race festivities are great (especially for kids) with lots of free food (pancakes, mexican, coffee, etc.) but since the 5K and 10K start around the same time as the half, the lines for these are termendously long by the time we half-marathoners arrive and not worth the 30 minute wait for a pancake. The course was pretty, but a bit over-hyped on the website. It is basically looping around a highway out in the country and then into town on residential streets.

This was my first time running the Great Race of Agoura. I decided to make it my first trail race and went with the Chesebro Half Marathon. After some initial second thought and almost switching to the Pacific Half Marathon I’m so glad I stuck with the Chesebro.
Pre Race Packet Pick-Up was great. Picked up my packet on Friday and was in and out in about 5 minutes. The way they have the pick-up for the different races is great and makes everything go incredibly smooth.
Course: LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED!!!! I’ve done about 25 half marathons and this was my first trail race (not counting the Pendleton Mud Run). I think the trails really suit me. The race starts on the streets of Agoura for about 3 miles and then the trails start off kind of flat which is a good thing. At about mile 5 1/2 the trails start getting a bit more challenging. I give so much credit to anybody who can run this entire course and not have to walk up any of the hills.
Post Race: Unfortunately I was a bit slower than I anticipated (although for this course I was more than happy with my time) and by the time I finished they didn’t have any medals for the Chesebro. Turns out only the ribbons are different and others were offered a Pacific Half Medal with the ribbon. Normally this would have greatly upset me but it isn’t about the medal, it was about the challenge. I was able to borrow a medal from another finisher and get a post-race picture. Race organizers have already addressed the issue and I’m hoping I’ll have my medal soon to add to my collection.
I already look forward to being back in 2015 and I’m hoping to put in a bit more trail work prior to next years race although it’s looking like it will only be 1 week after the Los Angeles Marathon.

This was my first time running this race (2013). I ran the Cheseboro Half, as my first trail run. Parking was easy to get to, but my friend and I arrived early because we needed to pick up our bibs. The course was nice and challenging. It was a bit tricky getting around some people on the narrower parts of the trail, and even more so when it was a single file. But then again, this being my first trail run, I didn’t know what to expect. It was GREAT to finally get to the top and to have to go back down again.
I had been training hills prior to this race, and it still kicked my butt! But it was a lot of fun. Definitely more interesting than a road race, that’s for sure.
The post-race was great. Lots of free goodies, although the line for pancakes was way too long by the time we realized where it was.
I would totally run this race again!

I just love this race. Been running it for the past 6 years and I never get tired of it. The Chesebro half is absolutely gorgeous and the Pacific Half is a quad buster that’s worth the hurt. Post race expo is really family friendly which makes it nice for spectators. A joy to run every year. Plus there’s always a nice shirt (even if the expo is a little on the light side). Thank you race organizers for continuing to put on a super event.

There are two half marathons to choose from – one on trail and one road. Last year the day before the race, it had rained, so the trail course was closed and all did the road race. This is truly of my favorite courses! There is one major hill early on, but you are rewarded with an equally long down hill. The course is especially scenic the entire way through! Great race, and awesome post expo with fresh crepes. You can also order your photos with the capability to make it black and white, with only you in color. Love this race and am excited to do the trail Chesebro half next month. Course is also near the original Kardashian store – very small and overpriced, but fun to see all the same.

Great runs. Chesboro Trial run is BEAUTIFUL and very challenging. Well worth the entry fee. Family oriented, races for kids, bounce houses at the end of the race for kids, food, etc. all geared to the family. proceeds can benefit local schools or charities.
