This was my 1st experience with GOTG. There were lack of signs when I arrived, but it was before 6. I picked up my bib Saturday morning and it was very quick. they even opened before 6 am. 12 pot-o-potties in parking lot, but lines were not organized well due to placement in rows. Park potties had way longer lines. Race started on time. Course was nice, squishy at times, and seemed to lack signage at loops. No water (other than park drinking fountains) between miles 8 (gatorade only) and 11 (water only). It was humid, so I stopped at 2 drinking fountains, drank too much, and needed to walk off my cramp. Post race food was banana, water and half bagel. Tech tanks are cute and actually fit big chested ladies. Medal was the same for everyone except half marathon finishers say 13.1. Fun race, not too crowded. Last few miles were spent zigzagging around people in park. No traffic when leaving. All in all a nice, small race.

I ran the Girls on the Go Half Marathon this weekend with my wife. I had previously ran the Women’s half so I was expecting it to be a different type of race since it is an all female race. However, as a race in general I found this one lacking. The course was a loop, which is fine considering cost issues and coordination issues, but the direction on the course was not laid out as well as it could have been. There definitely needed to be a longer break between the half marathon runners who had to take the loop and the 10k/5k runners who came later. Many of the faster runners were having to fight their way through the walkers to maintain pace. Also once the race hit the open paths along the pay there was not enough volunteers to help make sure that racers were not being blocked by the public. We were dodging people just out for a saturday stroll as well as bicycles, pets and strollers. It definitely led to more confusion and frustration than necessary. The finish line area was pretty nice with vendors being generous with samples. The medal also ended up being pretty nice. I hope next year they are able to smooth out the logistic issues because it’s always nice to have more races in San Diego!

This is a boutique style race so you wont find the thousands of participants like a RnR race and I love that. The race directors put their heart into what they do and make it personal for all the women/men participating! The medals were wonderful and the tech tanks were a charm… where do you ever find a tech tank??
There was a repeat course so it was a little trying passing the finish line to keep going but it was all along the bay the entire race so that was pretty sweet and the women were all fabulous and kept each other motivated.
The post race was the best! Some great vendors were there including runningskirts, powercore, and more! It filled my swag bag for sure. Plus I won a gift certificate for $200 for a spa service. I will for sure be back next mothers day with my daughter!

This was the second race held by the Girls on The Go 5k in the del Mar location. While I admit that it must have been a challenge to deal with a participant list that tripled in size from one year to the next, I also think they could have been more prepared. The Packet Pick-Up took nearly 45 minutes because they had only 1 volunteer passing out bibs. The shirts were nice if you paid extra for the tech tee but the bibs were not assigned until pick-up. Chips weren’t passed out until race morning, which a lot of participants missed. The race coordinators couldn’t have accounted for the terrible weather which messed up timing, but honestly, with the weather the way it was, it should have been cancelled. The post-race was not professional. The medals were not placed on our necks or even handed to us. There was NO post-race fuel.
