There is a reason what I do this race every year….it’s awesome!!! The course is great for everyone, first timers and seasoned triathlete’s alike. The swim is in the harbor so there are literally no waves, the bike course is extremely flat and fast and the run course is the same.
The after party is reason enough to race. They prepare a full BBQ lunch with all the fixings (veggie burgers too).
The race is very well supported with enough volunteers.
What more can I say….do this race!!!

I like this triathlon. I did the Olympic distance last year and did the Sprint this year. For both years, I just picked up my packet right before the race which is convenient. There are a few vendors at the race site. I had plenty of space in the transition area and didn’t feel squeezed in. The swim is in the Ventura Harbor so there are no waves to worry about which is great for newbie triathletes. The water was about 64 degrees so I definitely recommend wearing a wetsuit. Doing the Sprint this year was way more fun because you only have to do 1 lap of the bike course instead of 3 which can get tedious. Both the bike and run course is pretty flat so you can set a PR if you want. Post race is great because they gave out hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, salad, water, etc. The only thing that brought this race down for me was that 2 days after the race, we got an email stating a racer was hit on the bike course in a hit and run accident. That is just so sad. The bike course is on an open road and you share the road with cars. I know it’s not the race’s fault but please be aware of how dangerous it can be when you’re racing in an open road. I hope the racer is okay. Overall I give this race an A for everything but also a cautious note to all future racers of this event when you are riding the bike course.

This was a very well run and very thought out race. It was well done with thought going out to the beginner triathlete as well as the seasoned competitor.
PRE RACE
It was simple enough. Just by the transition staging area, they had a tent set up where you would pick up your packet. Not a whole lot to do – and nothing outside of a course map to indicate that it was a part of the event – but you can’t expect a whole lot here.
COURSE
I actually give the course an B-. The bike loops had the potential to be confusing with how they intertwined, but the real killer for the bike course was the narrow section of road on one of the “turn legs”. This did a bunch of things – including causing a draft fest to happen, increasing the potential for accidents and wrecks, and slowing down competitors who are on their second or third loop (and behind people who were just going incredibly slow). Also – due to the looped course – there was course cutting happening. The swim course was just fine and the wave starts really worked well. The run was a simple out and back and scenic and supported enough where it was really enjoyable.
POST RACE:
Post race was outstanding and gets an A+. Enough for athletes and spectators to do alike and lots of great food (with a BBQ!). Can’t ask for a whole lot more.
OVERALL:
Overall, a great race. Transition was set up nicely and the staff running the event were all helpful. Very well done. This is a great Olympic race in the LA area! I’ll be back next year.

A terrific race! Great location. Nice, flat course. BBQ afterward for athletes. I really enjoyed this one all around. Excellent for anybody wanting to do an Olympic length for the first time and a nice fast course for those who aren’t first-timers.
