A “foam fest” run scheduled for the Temecula Downs Event Center on July 19 has been postponed and organizers aren’t giving out refunds, according to the race’s website.
On the Foam Fest’s website, the organizers of the event — which involves people running around through foam — blamed “unexpected, last-minute, logistical issues” for the postponement.
Those issues were not disclosed. The organizers did, however, say they may move the event.
“Unfortunately,” the site said, “we’re not able to provide you with a refund.”
On Yelp, a user named Katie T. of San Diego said that as of July 17th, “they are out of business”:
“All future events have been completely canceled. Everyone that had registered before July 15th is out whatever money they paid for a race. They are ‘bankrupt’ and there is no one that will answer phone calls or emails. Wish I didn’t have to give even one star.”
The event center also was supposed to be the site of a Great Bull Run event earlier this year but that spectacle was moved to Los Angeles County because of issues with Riverside County.
The foam event was supposed to be a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County and Maryann Edwards, president /CEO of the nonprofit organization, said she was disappointed to hear of the cancellation.
“We were ready to foam and foam and foam,” she said.
The “we” in this case is Edwards and volunteers who were prepared to work the event. Edwards said she was told that the organizers weren’t able to drum up enough interest in the run.
“There have been a lot of races lately I think people are just raced out,” she said.
There was no answer at the listed phone number for Round House Racing, the Utah-based company that staged the foam races.
According to the Better Business Bureau, the BBB was notified on Wednesday that a Foam Fest event in Garrettsville, Ohio was canceled by this business.
Participants tell BBB they paid advance registration fees to Round House Racing ranging from $45-$75 and cannot obtain a refund. Another event in California has also been cancelled. Participants received an email from the business that they will be in touch as they look to reschedule the event.
The website for this business states that Foam Fest does not issue refunds or partial refunds regardless of circumstances.
